Specialist Reports Holiday by Accommodation Self-Catering Self-Catering Italy Another Italy
Part of the Travel a la Carte operation, a small, family-owned company started in the late ‘70s, focusing initially on the Greek Islands. WhereMainly to southern Tuscany including Montepulciano, Maremma, Val d'Orcia, plus Le Marche. StyleSingle villas plus self-catering agriturismi (farmhouses, often with farm activity nearby, plus the option to buy farm produce), all renovated rural. Two places are within 6km of Florence but even they are in countryside. Few are within walking distance of a village or town so a car is essential. Around three quarters have the use of a pool. Around a third (larger properties) have their own washing machine and/or dishwasher. At others there may be a laundry room or communal washing machine. SeasonGenerally April to October though properties are keen to take people year-round, all having central heating and often giant traditional Tuscan fireplaces. Heating payable extra. FacilitiesCots and high chairs should be available everywhere by prior arrangement, charges varying according to the property, generally £25 per cot and £15 per high chair per week. Babysitting can be organised occasionally. ExtrasMaid service is not generally offered apart from weekly cleaning or in some cases one cleaning per holiday, handing over clean linen at the end of the first week. There are exceptions to this but few. Occasionally the housekeepers will do some cooking but this is not common. Sample PriceA two-bedroom apartment with shared pool for a week in high season would be £680 in the southern Marche, or in Tuscany £750. Flights and car hire are usually arranged independently. |
