Where
Southern Italy - including Sicily, Aeolian islands, Sardinia, Campania, Puglia, Calabria, Amalfi, Basilicata, Abruzzo, Rome, Naples and Palermo.
Style
Old villas, traditional "trulli" (cone-roofed homes in Puglia), the odd castle and elegantly modern option, plus apartments, and some complexes (not mass market style) with sports facilities and entertainment, plus agritourist farms and hotels.
Season
Mainly spring, summer and autumn, a few in winter with heating, possibly an open wood fire, calor gas stove or similar. This is payable extra.
Facilities
Cots and bedding around £7 per week, payable locally. Babysitting can be arranged at around half the properties at around £4 per hour. Around half the pools have children's sections.
Extras
At around half the properties there is a charge for final cleaning and linen hire of around €25. Maid service can be provided at around half the properties, payable locally. Shopping for arrival can be arranged. At some self-catering properties there is a restaurant on site.
Sample Price
An agritourist property with small hotel and restaurant on site would £690 per week for self-catering accommodation for four in high season with car hire. Flights and insurance can also be arranged.
