A company run by a historic buildings adviser, set up specifically to offer houses of historic interest. Report that they can't get enough of the properties they want, although they turn down four out of five they are offered.

In the UK only in Cornwall plus two in southwest France and one in Tuscany.

Style

Chosen for the interest of their setting, history or architecture. Most are listed buildings, generally with log fires, thick granite walls and in some cases award-winning pubs a short walk away. Television and washing machines, as well as books and games, are usually provided. Four properties sleep 15-plus.

Linen

£5 per person per week including towels.

Heating

Wood for the fire is included in the rental, as is the cost of electricity.

Facilities

Cots are available at most houses free of charge and there are also high chairs and often children's toys.
