Where

Initially and largely in southeast Asia (Bali, Bora Bora, the Philippines) but now also in the French Alps, Marrakesh in Morocco. Mexico and Jackson Hole Wyoming in the US.

Style

Top flight resorts, among the best in the world, focusing both on quality of design and top quality service, with no more than 35 or 400 rooms.

Child Facilities

As benefits hotels of their quality, anything can be arranged, including childcare - a member of staff simply accompanying the family for the whole day if required. Some resorts also offer private villas with a live-in maid and cook and two to six separate bedrooms plus living and dining areas and private pool. Particularly recommended for families are Amanwana on an island just east of Bali in Indonesia, with 20 tents. These are large enough for two under 10s to share with parents on day beds and their food and accommodation would be free. Also suitable might be Amanpulo on an island in the Philippines, or slightly less suitable Amanpuri in Thailand, although this does have a small children's pool on the beach.

Sample Price

A two bedroom ocean view villa at Amanpula in Thailand is US$1870 per night.

Child Offers

Children under 2 sharing with parents are free. All others pay full rates except at Amanwana.
