Operating since 1989, this company specialises in tailor-made wildlife, snorkelling/diving, archaeological and natural history holidays. In 2003 they introduced a Family Adventures programme ‘aiming to educate and delight children and parents alike and reveal them to the manifold wonders of the natural world'. The MD is a father of two young children who wanted to offer suitable but exotic long-haul family holidays with a chance to explore the natural world. Accommodation is generally in small, locally-run properties where there are rooms for families including suites. Villas are also used and, when travelling along coastlines, all accommodation is close or on the beach. Babysitting and flexible catering are often offered. To help choose, the brochure highlights the particular advantages of each destination for families, whether the great child-friendliness of Sri Lankans or the lack of malaria and dangerous wildlife on the Seychelles.

What and Where

The Family Adventures programme runs in Belize, Costa Rica, Honduras, Borneo, Seychelles, Madagascar, Ecuador & the Galapagos, Panama, and Sri Lanka. All these destinations have something to offer the family. For instance, Belize has jungle lodges and rain forest tours, seaside resorts and the barrier reef; Costa Rica has jungle boat rides, gentle river rafting, active volcanoes, birds in the cloud forest, and Pacific beaches; Madagascar is home to lemurs, chameleons, and a private island resort with its own turtle conservation project; Sri Lanka has everything from the Temple of the Tooth to wildlife reserves; the Seychelles offers island-hopping; Ecuador and Galapagos is educational and especially well-suited to slightly older children; in Borneo you have the opportunity to spot orang-utans, wild elephants, green turtles and more; and Honduras you can visit the rainforests, coral reefs and Mayan sites.

Minimum Age

There is no minimum age. The programme is aimed exclusively at families with children under 12. This company has arranged holidays to Costa Rica and Belize with 18-month-old children.

Sample Price

Peak season, a fourteen-day holiday to Belize for a family of four will cost in the region of £6180 (£2060 per adult and £1030per child), including international and domestic flights, accommodation, some meals, transfers, specified activities, guide services and park entrance feels.
