Australia used to have food as bad as the UK's was, but things have perked up a lot with input from immigrant populations from Italy to Indonesia. The result is a wide range of cooking, with an emphasis on seafood. The best options are largely in the big cities and smarter hotels and lodges.

For the culinarily adventurous there are places serving crocodile, camel, kangaroo, barramundi and emu, most widely available in the Northern Territories, but also elsewhere.

Otherwise cafes often offer children's menus. There are also, of course, MacDonalds and clones thereof.
