Practicalities Getting Organised Insurance Who to Buy From 

Travel insurance is provided by a limited number of companies (underwriters) but retailed by many more. The differences in product and price are based on much the same principles as any other retail product.

The retailer picks which elements it wants to combine into the specific policies it is offering, how many different options it wants to provide, and how much margin to add in. Shopping around naturally means you will be able to consider a wider range of options and prices.

It is worth bearing in mind that although conveniently available from travel agents, prices for family insurance may to be very high there, in part because children over two may be charged as adults.

Whoever you buy from you do need to make sure that the underwriter of your policy is reputable so there will be money there to meet any claim. If you have any queries you can contact:

An independent, non-statutory organisation set up to regulate the sales, advisory and service standards of Members (insurers, intermediaries - including brokers, agents, and anyone acting for them). A new ruling means holiday-makers can know what percentage commission is being made by their travel agent on insurance policies.
