Holidays by Destination Europe Spain Canaries Eating

Pizza and pasta, fish and chips, burgers (eight McDonalds on Gran Canaria alone) are all here. There is also Spanish/international or a range of regional Spanish restaurants (of which Basque may be the best option).

Canarian food is not among the great cuisines of the world though fish is good. Traditional dishes include salt-fish stew, 'potajes' (thick vegetable soup) and salted and dried potatoes cooked in their skins. Pork and beef are available but children might object to kid and goat. Bananas and tomatoes are local produce, plus avocados, passion fruit, pineapples, prickly pears and more.
