Holidays by Destination Europe Spain Canaries Attitudes to Kids

People have time for children, for example in restaurants and, particularly in the resorts, they will put together a child's meal on request for example.

Play

Resorts generally have a play area but you will also find them in most residential areas and the large shopping centres in particular usually offer good ones.

Baby Changing Facilities

Almost none though airside at Gran Canaria's airport and in newer shopping centres.

Buggies

Fine in resorts which are being increasingly smartened with pavements and in larger towns like Santa Cruz on Tenerife or Las Palmas on Gran Canaria. However, they would be a real nuisance on larger beaches where you have to walk significant distances to leave the crowds.

Breastfeeding

Less and less common and certainly not see out and about. In the resorts however it is more the reaction of other northerners who seem blase about topless sunbathing for example.

Babysitting

In theory should be possible through hotels, particularly those with kids clubs, but no guarantee.

Baby Stuff

Known as panales, cheapest at supermarkets like Hiperdino or Alcampo, Monbebe 26 4-10kg Pta995, Dodot 62 9-15kg Pta2,268. There is Enerlet, Hero, Millac and Heinz formula at around Pta850 for 400g, babyfood from Heinz, Beechnut, Hero at around Pta99 for 20g, but with the usual added sugar and salt. Wet wipes are available.
