Holidays by Destination Europe Malta Attitudes to Children As you would expect, southern Mediterranean and doting. PlayPlaygrounds include Gzira Public Gardens, on the promenade between Sliema and the Msida yacht marina with swings, seesaw and protective rubber flooring. There is a small children's play area on the promenade in Sliema, before Balluta Bay, including a wooden play-house and rubber flooring. Baby Changing FacilitiesSome restaurants, particularly chains like McDonalds, are installing them. Elsewhere they are rare but found in some more family oriented attractions such as the Mediterraneo Marine Park. BuggiesFine along the resort fronts and even in places like Valletta though there are slate cobbles in part. On the other hand Republic Street and part of Merchant Street in Valletta are pedestrianised. In Mdina only residents' cars are permitted within the walls. Marsalforn seafront on Gozo is pedestrianised on summer evenings. On the buses however buggies would be inconvenient because there is no space for them unless folded and the entrance step is high. BreastfeedingIt's considered normal, and given how family-oriented the islands are, should be fine. BabysittingMost places cater for children but some hotels, notably the five-star ones such as the Hilton, run clubs, and all five-star and some four-star hotels can arrange babysitters for evenings. Baby StuffAll British brands should be available, in supermarkets or from pharmacies - these second on a roster basis on Sundays. Some larger supermarkets are open all day. |
