Holidays by Destination Europe Sweden Stockholm When to Go

The standard answer to this is May to September, particularly as the country's short summers can be hot with temperatures of 25ºc and above. Days are long with little real night in June and July. Particularly useful for British families is that the holiday season runs mid-June to mid-August so availability is reasonably good for the second half of August. However, by the end of the month autumn has started and frosts may occur.

Snow starts in October and generally blankets the ground until March or even April The reflections from the snow brighten up the winter days and as buildings are well heated and insulated, it can be fun time to visit, particularly for a city break and especially given that there are some extremely well priced offers (see Operators). The ice floes on the harbour (or even frozen waves) are intriguing for visiting children who naturally also enjoy the chance of snow play. Enlivening even the outdoors are candles - a popular gesture at night against the dark.
