Reading

Read up on the history. A good reference book is the Blue Guide to Egypt. Alternatively invest in The Lonely Planet Guide to Egypt and The Lonely Planet Guide to Cairo. Both are excellent and give loads of information. A Family Guide to an Ancient City, Dr Lisa Sabbahy, is published in Cairo.

Egyptian Gazette http://www.egy.com
Offers articles on Cairo in the 19th and 20th centuries.
