Route managers provide a full briefing at the beginning of the week and live in the area. They are bi-lingual and are available at any time if required for back-up and to provide information on restaurants, events in the area and to talk through the route. A detailed route booklet is provided plus a ‘gold card' providing discounts on eating places. Because independent you can set your own dates, allowing for budget flights etc.

Where

Italy, France and Spain with alternative transport available. All luggage is moved on for you and all accommodation organised. Report great success with mothers and daughters. If don't feel like walking there are usually bus routes or a taxi can be organised.

Style

Both escorted and independent tours offered, with the second recommended for families.

Minimum Age

Recommended for 12+ if active children, or small babies in backpacks.

Accommodation

In the Footloose independent programme on most routes there is a choice between standard and superior accommodation. All have private bathrooms and ranges in standard from two to five-star though avoiding gold tap luxury, tend to be small, family-run and friendly. Can get cots for little children and for slightly older ones may be able to get family rooms.

Length of Trips

All eight days and seven nights. Most have 5-10 miles walking per day with some free days included. The reservations team is good at advising on the most suitable for children. All trips are marked and would recommend Latium and Orvieto which passes Lake Bolsena where you can swim. Otherwise would suggest hill towns for life in the evening, the Tuscan route can be good for that.
