Holidays by Destination Africa General When to Go

That depends where you are going with climates including Mediterranean at the very top and southern tip, some areas of steppe or semi desert, a wide band of hot desert across the north and in from the southwester coast and the major parts of sub-Saharan Africa being tropical equatorial and tropical with monsoon/wet and dry variations with the southeastern coast subtropical.

The equator runs almost directly through the middle of Africa and it is worth remembering that season for example in southern Africa, are the reverse of those in Europe and north America.

For some examples:
Botswana is most comfortable May through August.

Ghana is seriously hot year round but more tolerable in July and August.

Kenya is most comfortable in Nairobi in July and August. In Mombassa it gets hotter but the marginally more tolerable period is May through September.

Morocco is best November through May.

South Africa is comfortable in Johannesburg March through November, Durban June through August and Cape Town April through October, though the other months are tolerable despite heat.

Tanzania is best June through October.

Tunisia is best November through April though except in the hotter desert or steppe it should be tolerable outside those months.

Zimbabwe is comfortable May through August. Other months are hot but tolerable.
