Holidays by Destination Europe Switzerland Where to Go and What to Do

Broadly the kind of holidays promoted for families include plenty of activity; swimming and watersports on the lakes. hiking, biking and more in the hills and mountains. Details are promoted by the local tourist offices but may include accompanying the cows to mountain pastures and watching cheese being made.

The towns, although they include attractions, are less geared up. However, if you do opt to stay in one of them they almost all have easily accessible outings up nearby mountains for more fresh air and a slower atmosphere.

The regional information given here is designed to simply to highlight the main areas of interest, plus a selection of options which might catch the attention of children.

The tourist literature provides more information. Summer in Switzerland What and Where for example includes a table of resorts and among listings of facilities like swimming pools, bike trails, golf, riding and sailing schools, and also details whether the resort operates a nursery. Around half do so.

Most regions offer packages or trails to encourage tourists to explore their attractions. For details of these see their web sites, though some are also detailed in the general guides mentioned under More Information.
