Basel Tourism http://www.baseltourismus.ch

Offers around 35 museums including a Paper Mill where you can try making your own paper, and a toy museum. Of the art collections the most famous is the Kunstmuseum with an outstanding selection of 20th century art plus a fine medieval collection as well as more. Children and adults with a sense of humour will enjoy the Musee Jean Tinguely which includes the kinetic sculptures produced from unwanted junk, triggered into movement by various buttons and other triggers. There is also a Puppenhausmuseum - Dolls houses - The most famous building is probably the Munster - cathedral - dating back to the 14th century.

There is more art outside the centre at the Fondation Beyler with again an outstanding 20th century collection. Nearby at Augusta Raurica a one-time Roman town, are the biggest Roman ruins in the country.
