A very good hotel from my experience is the Sanibel Harbour Resort and Spa, this one is close to Sanibel Island on the West coast of Florida.

This is a luxury resort which also caters for families. It is a five star resort with the emphasis on sports (many tennis courts) golf nearby) and an enormous state-of-the-art spa and fitness area. It is built on its own (very small) beach but there are huge long sandy beaches on Sanibel Island nearby. It is fabulous.

The hotel itself has luxury rooms and suites but the nice thing for families is that there are several blocks of large self-catering apartments/condominiums with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and all the usual luxuries (bathrobes, luxury toiletries etc). The condos are very nice, decorated in the usual American condo neutral style but very rooms with a large kitchen area (incl, washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, huge American fridge etc), large TV, video, balcony (wire-meshed from top to bottom so no danger of kids falling over it). The linen and towels are changed daily and the apartment tidied.

Although there is a large central pool each condominium block has its own pool as well, though there is no kiddies pool in the smaller pools. The whole place is spread out so it is quite quiet which makes a welcome change from some family resorts. My husband is dying to go back to it.

I believe they organise a kids club during the summer holidays but we did not use it as outs are too small.

Nearby in Fort Meyers and on the way to it are many restaurants for families to eat, and in the usual American fashion there are plenty of large supermarkets and malls .

A car is absolutely necessary to get around. The nearest airport is Fort Meyers. Check out their web site.
