The main area to visit is the old town with the Ramblas running through it. This is around a kilometre square so can be strolled. The most interesting section is the Barri Gotic to the east, with a street pattern virtually unchanged since the 15th century.

Useful passes for the extensive train and bus network are the T-Dia for unlimited travel for one day at Pta 575 or Pta 1350 for three days. Though under 3s travel free, all other children pay full price. The metro is the quickest and most efficient way to get around.

The Bus Turistic (number 100) operates late June to mid September stopping at 15 points of interest and the ticket also covers the Tramvia Blau (tram), Montjuic funicular and cable car. Small discount for under 12s.

Taxis will only take four people.
