Holidays by Destination Europe Italy Sicily When to Go

Average temperatures in Palermo are 10ºc in January, 25ºc in July and August. Rain falls October to March (the reason for the island's fertility) making it the time to avoid. Spring and early autumn can be delightful however. July and August are hot and very crowded in the most popular destinations, particularly but not only Cefalu, Taormina and the Aeolian islands, so you would need to arrange accommodation well ahead. Before and after that it should be easier but if you want a room in the best spot, say the old part of Syracuse, you should still book before arriving.
