There is a mass of guides to Italy but as usual we would recommend the Rough Guides of which there is the general Rough Guide to Italy, £12.99; plus separate guides to Tuscany & Umbria, £11.99; Sardinia, £9.99; Sicily, £10.99; and mini guides to the cities of Florence, £5.99; and Rome, £5.99; and a full size guide to Venice and the Veneto, £9.99.

Purely for accomodation there is the Charming Small Hotel Guide: Italy published Duncan Petersen, £9.99. The idea is to include only hotels with no more than 15 rooms in an attractive and peaceful setting. Listings detail whether children are welcomed, merely accepted, or if there is any age limit.
