In the large Fornells inlet with narrow opening to sea, to the north of Minorca.

What Taught

Sailing and windsurfing, at all levels, working to RYA certificates if wished.

What Equipment

260-plus boats “enough to ensure you need never wait for a boat”. There are also windsurfers from beginners' to race and fun boards. Safety boats are always in radio contact.

For Children

Creche (4 months to 5 years) with British resident qualified childcare staff seven days a week both in and out of doors. As well as painting, modelling, water activities and supervised play there are beach games. 4-pluses are encouraged to try sailing with gentle instruction.

The Pirates (4-5 years) is for children new to sailing or they can try windsurfing. Water games, picnics and other activities encourage good fun on the water “making the most of the short concentration spans of very small children”. “The groups are closely supervised and the small group numbers make it very easy for the children to become firm friends.”

Explorers (6-7 years) offers windsurfing and sailing, with an emphasis is on safe fun and games. The small groups have a high ratio of instructors to children.

Young Sailors (8-9 years and 10-12 years) offers RYA-approved instruction with team games in small boats, treasure hunts on an island, picnics, beach and water games.

There are also facilities for teenagers and a teenage windsurfer centre.

Accommodation

Either in self-catering villas and apartments of three different standards (and prices), or the Hotel Port Fornells, a residencia with pool and gardens, two minutes' walk from the local shop and one minute from moorings.

Sample Price

A fortnight in a two-bedroom apartment in August might be around £1,150 per person with four sharing. Under 2s around £450, 2-5 25% discount, 6-11 10%. This includes flights, transfers, sailing tuition, kids clubs, and use of dinghies and windsurfers.
