Style

Properties range from city centre business hotels to country style lodges in the three & four-star categories.
Economy hotels are branded Protea Hotel Landmark Lodges and are for those on a restricted budget and may offer limited services. A Protea hotel is regarded as offering good quality accommodation and public areas, equivalent to a three-star. Premier Protea Hotels are equivalent to a four-star offering high quality d?cor, more individual style and higher level of service. African Pride are five-star properties offering the high international standards of service, accommodation and facilities. Aventura Resorts are fully serviced self-catering properties operated by Protea. There are 19 of these six within or next to South African nature parks where there are game drives, walks and for example horse riding. Two or three hotels join and leave the group most years.

Child Facilities

Although the brochure has no particular symbol to indicate child-friendliness or facilities for families, the group reports that all Protea Hotels have cots, high chairs. Children are permitted in restaurants in the evenings. There are no children's high teas but all hotels offer babysitting. The hotels will also help warming bottles and those with self-catering facilities are reported particularly suitable. Each hotel has family rooms, suites, connecting rooms of some sort.
