The St Andrews five-star hotel, making a big effort with families, reporting 160 children at the hotel over Easter 2000.
As well as a nine-hole par 3 course more suitable for beginners than the main course, a golf academy taking children from 3 or 4 years. A half hour session is £30 including a golf club made for the child's height, further sessions £20. There are also two indoor swimming pools, outdoor Jacuzzi, sauna, Turkish bath, gym, squash court, croquet, putting greens, pitch and putt, petanque, snooker and tennis.

For Children

A separate web sitegleneaglets is specifically for young visitors. Activity options include tennis, pitch and putt, petanque, croquet, mountain biking, horse riding, team games such as football and rounders, and golf lessons if you hire a set of US Kids Clubs plus tuition in tennis, swimming and squash. Weekly splash parties are held in the swimming pool on Saturdays 2-3pm. The estate also includes 23 designated Sites of Scientific Interest. There is a playroom with toys and games and events for children 2 to 10 years for two hours daily. These include face painting, model making and on some days a cartoon film. Staff are all qualified in nursery nursing or pre-school care, and all staff and helpers have co-operated in suitability assessments. The Playroom carries a Certificate of Registration. Under 2s are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult. The playroom is open 9.30am to 5pm daily. An outdoor play area is suitable for children 4-10 years. There are board games to borrow, and Playstation. There are also Kids Tours of the property, visiting for example the falconry centre and tours off site for example at Christmas and Easter.
Children's meals are available in two restaurants plus on room service and include options like shepherds pie, pasta with ham and cheese or chicken fingers with barbecue sauce, or crab cakes stir fried beef with mushrooms and rice or chicken in a creamy mustard sauce. The kitchen will puree food for babies and pizzas are available on request.
Baby-sitters (hourly rates on request) can be booked or there are mother's helps who will supervise the children and take them for the various sporting activities if requested.
Baby facilities include cots, high chairs, bottle warmers, sterilising units, pushchairs, nappies and baby baths.

Sample Price

Suites in high season start from £710 a night. Children 4-16 years sharing with parents, £40 per night. Under 5s, free. Prices include breakfast and transfers from the Gleneagles railway station.
