Recommendations

In addition to safaris (see Safaris report) a trip to Madagascar (while warning of potential political unrest and the fact that it is a malarial zone) including a visit to one or two lemur reserves such as the small, flat and well maintained Berenty Reserve where there is abundant wildlife, plus a beach location (where there is safe swimming and coral reefs for snorkelling) such as St Marie Island and the Princess Bora or Knotty Baby on the northwest coast and Island Dreams Lodge on a little island where sitters can be organised. In August whalewatching is also an option.
Non malarial is the island of Reunion which can be combined with a beach resort on nearby Mauritius. Reunion's scenery is dramatic and includes one of the world's most active volcanoes, but there is less in the way of wildlife.

Sample Price

To Reunion in August (high season) would be in the region of £2,000 a head. Madagascar Luxury Family Adventure is £3,490 per adult and £2,190 for children under 12.
