Holidays by Destination Asia Hong Kong When to Go

The climate is subtropical, meaning that it is generally both humid and unpredictable. However, within that framework, it is worth avoiding the period March to May when humidity averages 84% and average temperatures range from 19ºc in march to 28ºc in May. June to mid September is not much better with humidity averaging 83% and when it is even hotter with averages of 29ºc to 31ºc. During this period there is also liable to be a lot of rain and even typhoons.

Winter is cooler with average temperatures of 18ºc in January for example, with wind and mist a good possibility - weather requiring jackets when out and about.

This leaves autumn with average temperatures of say 27ºc in October and although the possibility of rain, not too much of it.

However, if you are simply thinking of a stopover in the city, you could do so at any time of year, as long as you don't try to do too much in the heat, look for shaded places to visit, and look for air conditioned accommodation to stay.
