Holidays by Destination Africa Tunisia Health

There are no compulsory immunisations but typhoid, cholera and hepatitis A are recommended.

Being on the edge of the malaria zone especially in summer it is important to avoid bites. Rabies exists, so dogs etc are best not petted.

Most doctors are trained in France, Belgium or the UK. French rather than English-speaking predominate. Public hospitals are best avoided but one operator points out that if you have insurance you will be sent to a private hospital, some of which are now being used by the NHS to perform hospitals on its behalf and offer a high standard of care.

Local infirmeries (surgery plus nurse) can handle smaller problems, as may pharmacies.
