Help Your Child with a Foreign Language Opal Dunn, £6.95

A US title designed to help parents teach their children a foreign language using the same methods they use for their native one - encouragement, interaction and repetition. There are also tips on understanding each child's individual learning needs, selecting the appropriate learning materials, and planning opportunities for language exposure abroad.

Berlitz Kids is a range of products designed to work together for children up to nine years, in German, Spanish, Italian and French.

Adventures with Nicholas consist of three storybooks with accompanying cassettes, the tales covering days of the week, rooms in a house, numbers one to 10, family names, feelings, action works, present and past tense, clothing, position and direction. We have tested them and have found that, although slightly tedious for the adult because reliant on repetition, they were extremely popular with an under five who had a small vocabulary in the language already. Each book plus cassette is £8.95.

To work alongside these there is an illustrated First 1000 Words and Phrases book, plus a Picture Dictionary, both £8.95. These are combined with a pack of flashcards, one of the Nicholas stories plus its cassette, and a copy of Help Your Child with a Foreign language to make up a Language Pack. This costs £15.95.

Songs from Around the World combines a cassette and booklet with the words of traditional songs in Spanish, French, English and German which children are encouraged to sing along to. £4.95.
