Practicalities Getting Organised Getting Around Car Hire

Country cottages, Mediterranean villas, French gites and North American cabins are rarely within walking distance of local amenities. You will need a car and unless you can take your own you will have to hire.

If, however, you are going to a city with good public transport like London, New York or Paris, or a resort which is either compact or with good public transport links, a car is an unnecessary expense.

For detail on issues to consider, see our Getting there by Car section.
