The Waveband Situation

Practicalities Getting Organised Baby Monitors The Waveband Situation

To date different countries have allocated (or failed to allocate) different radio wavebands for the use of baby and child monitors. This means that your baby monitor instead of picking up your baby's crying may tune in to the local taxi waveband instead.

There are currently attempts to unify the wavebands used to just a single band or a more limited selection of them. The proposal is that short-term the use of the bands 26.957-27.283Mhz and 40.660-40.700Mhz should be encouraged for this application.

Until harmonisation of wavebands happens legally, British manufacturers are unwilling to say whether their monitors can be used in other countries and the official advice is, if you want to use one, buy one on the spot - easier said than done in a holiday resort.
