Holidays by Destination Europe Netherlands General Eating 

This should prove easier than in the UK. The vast majority of sit-down establishments provide a high chair. Some also provide drawing materials. Child menus are sometimes available but given the nature of Dutch food there should be something on the main menu to suit.

The word snack is apparently Flemish in origin, and there are plenty of these including deep fried croquettes pistolets, bitterballen, or the larger kroketten, frites with mayonnaise, waffles, and various forms of seafood, particularly anywhere close to the sea.

For sit down meals pancakes are a speciality in some restaurants, available either savoury or sweet. Elsewhere cheese, ham and eggs are traditional ingredients so it should be possible rustle something up. If you need pasta or pizza Italian restaurants are relatively common.

Baking is a Dutch speciality with good quality butter cakes and biscuits which are well worth trying. If near Medemblik the bakery even encourages visiting children to help cook them (see Where to Go).
