Where to Go

Holidays by Destination Europe Switzerland Where to Go

Switzerland offers more than 1,500 lakes, 140 glaciers, and multiple mountains which occupy around 60% of the land area and include at least 100 of more than 4,000 metres. There is also softer, rolling country round the edges, and the more Mediterranean feel of the Italian-speaking south.

The main tourist areas for foreign visitors are the Bernese Oberland in the central west; Central Switzerland slightly to its east; Lake Geneva region in the far west, bordering France; the Valais to its south; the Ticino bordering Italy; and in the southeast Graubunden, the largest but most sparsely populated canton.
