When to Go

Holidays by Destination Middle East Israel When to Go

On religious holidays flights are busy and accommodation prices go up by as much as 100%. Note that Christmas and Easter may be celebrated on different dates by different branches of the Christian church, making them extended periods. The main Jewish festivals are September/ October and April/May.

Winter is colder and wetter the further north or higher up you go. However Eilat averages 10-21ºc. Spring is an ideal time to visit the Negev and Dead Sea regions as not too hot, autumn is also suitable. In Jerusalem and on the Mediterranean coast temperatures are warmer, though Galilee may still be wet.

Summer (April to October) is more humid on the coast, hotter and drier in the Jordan valley. Periodic hot, dry winds can send temperatures up. In August Jerusalem may average 19-29ºc, and Eilat 26-40ºc. The hills around Galilee are cooler.
