Health

Holidays by Destination Africa Egypt Cairo and Sharm el Sheikh Health

Even if you are only coming for a week, vaccinations should be up to date - check with the doctor but it is essential to have them. Check at least six weeks in advance of the trip.

Care in what you eat and drink is the most important health rule - expect stomach upsets; these are very common, though they usually only last 24-48 hours. Bottled water is recommended at all times.

Do NOT eat lettuce or any other salad unless you are sure it has been washed properly in purified water or peeled. If you cannot guarantee this, and it has not been peeled or washed
properly do not eat it. Request to have NO ice cubes in any drinks.

It is always a good idea to bring a small first aid kit including rehydration tablets if a stomach upset should occur. Drugs are available freely over the counter here and much cheaper than in the UK, so stock up here.

Taxi rides can be hairy at times. Most of the capitals roads are three-way, with a donkey cart going the wrong way up the road

Do take bottled water with you when out and about, sunglasses, sunhats and high factor sunscreen - at least SPF 25.
