Holidays by Destination Europe Greece General Attitudes to Children Children are doted on to near excess so whatever tantrums are played out shouldn't cause anyone to turn a hair. Mothering is revered. Welcoming. For example they are welcome in tavernas where nobody seems to mind if they chase between the tables. There are child concessions on most transport. Play AreasRare. Children traditionally play in the vicinity of what the adults are doing. Baby Changing FacilitiesRare but being introduced for example with the up-grading of airports. Elsewhere ask one of the local women or staff in caf? or restaurant where they suggest for changing. BuggiesNot ideal even in the larger towns and even there, as elsewhere you will end up using the road which may be hilly. A backpack or sling might well be more useful. BreastfeedingConsidered to reflect well on the mother, recommended to the age of 2 and accepted everywhere, including tavernas. BabysittingThe mid sized hotels are less likely to offer babysitting than either private rooms or smaller family-run establishments. At the top end, babysitting can generally be arranged along with other concierge style services. Some operators can arrange this or in the smaller centres it should be reasonably easy to organise through local contacts. Less likely in isolated villas but children are almost expected out and about in the evenings. Baby StuffThe brands may include some which are different but both nappies and baby foods are available though of course, given that the labelling is Cyrillic you will find it difficult to work out exactly what the ingredients are. Disposable nappies were reported two or three years ago to be the rash-inducing plastic variety though they are improving. Wipes are available. Laundries are usefully now found in larger towns.
