When to Go

Holidays by Destination Europe France The Jura When to Go

The hills mean that rain is always a possibility in the Jura, although even through clouds it looks remarkably pretty. However, summer is probably the ideal time to go as apart from a couple of hot spots such as the Cascades du Herisson and villages like Baumes les Messieurs it is remarkably uncrowded. Temperatures average around 26ºc. Spring and autumn can also be good with average maximums of 14ºc in April, 21ºc in October but there will be fewer attractions open then.

Because there are no high slopes skiing is not really an option here, although La Cure just north of the Swiss border functions as something of a skiing centre. If you want to get out into the snow there are also snowshoe expeditions for example at La Pesse, Premanon, Les Rousses and Nozeroy, and dog sledding for example at Morbier with the Pulka Team with a 10km trail and outings for children min 4 years with four or six dogs +33 3 84 33 40 41. .
