When to Go

Holidays by Destination Europe France Loire When to Go

The area is known for its temperate climate. Summer (July and August) can be hot, with little wind and rather a lot of crowds making sightseeing arduous and good accommodation hard to come by.

Preferable may be April, May and June, bearing in mind the numerous public holidays in May, or possibly even better September and October, with pleasanter temperatures and fewer crowds.

Winter is December to end March and it rarely freezes for example, but smaller chateaux and attractions will be closed as may be some of the more luxurious hotels.

Rain, although it does fall, is only 26 inches a year so should pass.
