Holidays by Destination Africa Tunisia Tour Operators

Tunisian resorts all include large hotels (around 250 rooms-plus) with family rooms. Some also offer communicating rooms, generally of at least 250 rooms. Truly luxurious properties are still rather thin on the ground. La Residence at Gammarth, 20 minutes from central Tunis, is considered one of the best, but we have had reports of a ‘kids club' without so much as a selection of usable crayons. Smaller ‘boutique' or traditional hotels are rare, as is self-catering, which currently makes up just 2% of the tourist accommodation.

Self-catering properties are traditionally rarer than in European resorts, largely because it was felt that the place was just a little too unfamiliar for people to feel comfortable shopping for food. However, with more imported brands from Europe this is less of a challenge than in the ‘90s, and there are now conversions from pre-existing hotels, plus some new self-catering properties. Later developments also include more shops and restaurants.
