Holidays by Destination Africa Morocco When to Go
Best times to visit are generally April/May, and September/October. Because of snow in the winter months however, the trekking season in the High Atlas runs from May to September.
Marrakesh gets only 65 days of rain a year and hottest time is June to September with 30-40ºc the norm, falling to lows of 4oC in January. Peak holiday season is winter with temperatures 20-25ºc during the day. Spring and autumn can be delightful however, though nights can be cool almost year round so you will need at least a fleece or jumper, more in winter.
Inland summer temperatures in the desert rise to the 40s in summer, lower in the mountains and can drop to below freezing in winter. Even in Ouarzazate on the edge of the Sahara they go as low as 1ºc. Desert nights are cold throughout the year - more so in winter
The coast is more temperate. Agadir for example on the Atlantic offers 300 sunny days a year and temperatures between 17ºc and 27ºc average in January and 18ºc and 27ºc average in July.
Check also when Ramadan will be as, particularly in more observant areas, this can make travel difficult. |
