Guides

Alan Rogers Guides
http://www.alanrogers.com
Fairly selective (adding and dropping at least 20 per guide each year), reporting with good detail, including suitability for children and facilities. The majority are three and four star but there are some two star and in France for example municipal sites with sizes ranging from 12 pitches up to all singing all dancing numbers with 2,000-plus. Researchers look above all for quality, that pitches are well-sized (minimum 100sq metres), level and well drained, that site staff are welcoming, and that all toilet blocks are clean, with hot showers, and there are sufficient for the number of pitches/visitors. The range of titles seems to be growing but includes Britain and Ireland, France, Europe, Italy, Spain and Portugal, and Central Europe.

Michelin Camping and Caravanning France
http://www.michelin.co.uk
Published annually covers up to 3,500 of the approximately 11,000 found throughout the country. There are notes, explanations and a glossary of camping terms in a variety of languages including English. Facilities and prices are listed and each site is awarded points out of five with top marks going to facilities like supermarkets and discos.
