A consortium of UK canal boat operators started in the mid ‘90s with a total of 300-plus narrowboats based at 18 centres. Bookings are made direct with the individual operators. No toddlers, recommend pre-teens. Also offer hotel boats. Operators include

Type of Vessels

Modern narrowboats (canal boats) up to 12 berth, but with facilities like flushing lavatories, showers, microwaves and colour TVs.

Equipment

Linen and full galley plus heating. Some can provide cots or cotsides. Could provide local bike hire details.

Safety

Life jackets provided, including for children and there is training before setting off.

Sample Price

In August a four-berther might be from £160 per person per week. (Spring and autumn up to 40% cheaper.)
