Reports have had lots of families, with children of all ages ‘who get a lot out of it' with the option of participation if you wish, including steering, shovelling coal, helping with ropes.

Where

Three different areas: rural Clyde including Loch Fine and Island of Bute and Island of Arran plus sometimes the Crinan Canal; the west coast from Crinan to the island of Jura and Loch Sween (tender used for going ashore); on the Caledonian Canal between Fort William and Inverness.

Type of Vessel

On a coal-fired steamboat built in 1943 and known as a Clyde Puffer. Offers six cabins, a saloon with a wood-burning stove and small bar with a friendly crew. Accommodation is described as comfortable rather than luxurious and the food as good. Cruises are May to September.

Numbers on Board

Max 12.

Additional

The boat moors in the afternoon which is generally used for bird watching, fishing or walking. Swimming is a fine weather option and of course there is the tender to be rowed by enthusiastic children.

Minimum Age

None.

Sample Price

£450 per person for a week full board. 10% discount for parties of 12.
