An independent educational charity set up to promote a better understanding of the environment. It works through a network of 12 field study centres in the UK, of which Castle Head is the only one running holidays for unaccompanied children, ‘designed to stimulate enquiring minds'. One option includes an outing to Scotland.

8-14 or 8-16 years (plus 17-25 Young Leaders).

Up to 12 per group but an average of 7 or 8.

Carer to Child Ratio

1:10 and sometimes less.

Staff Checks and Qualifications

All of the centre staff running outdoor activies will have mountain leader training board qualifications to the appropriate level. All staff are checked under the latest system of the Criminal Records Bureau.

Size of Centre

40 acres, with the river flowing through the grounds where the kayaking is done.

Supervision

Members are staff are on duty 24-hours and there are also supervised evening activities.

Activities

Eco-Adventure courses. Discovery and Adventure with sleeping out under the stars while wild animals and birds move around you, rock climbing and crossing water. Art Adventure combines elements of the above with drama, art, story-telling, poetry and song writing, and literary appreciation.

On-Site Facilities

Own climbing wall, canoes and kayaks for use in the river.

Canteen style.

Collection from the nearby railway station can be arranged.
