Defining itself as the Fair Trade Travel Company, set up in January 1998 because the founders felt that tourism should be sustainable and of benefit to the local communities affected by it, and because they wanted to offer the kind of holidays which they themselves enjoyed - offering true experiences of a country, its people and environment. Offers cultural, wildlife, trekking and pure relaxation holidays but in places where tourism is used to help local communities and protect endangered environment.

Recommendations

Feels most trips would be fine with children as long as the parents felt happy about taking them to sometimes remote places. Options include The American Tribal Lands, Kenyan Jewels, A Kenyan Insight, A Tanzanian Insight, Horse Treks and Safaris (Lesotho) Nepal trips, The Galapagos Islands, Kalahari & the Okovango, A South Indian Insight, Egypt and the Sinai and any Moroccan trips. The holidays include meetings with the local people and often activities with them which might appeal to children, for example learning beadwork with the Masai, cooking in India, or while on the Sinai trip you spend the day camel trekking or hiking with the Bedouin through the desert and sleeping out at night under the stars.

Sample Price

Kenya around £1,775 per person. India £1,150 per person.
