Founded in 1949, a 3,682-member group.

Where

In 92 French departments, with a particularly high proportion in the Auvergne, Brittany, Midi Pyrenees and Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur.

Style

Individually, generally family-run hotels, almost all with restaurants. The hotels are generally characterful and often attractive, focusing on local foods, and offering mid range accommodation. Classifications are one, two or three fireplaces (simple but comfortable, comfortable (the majority), and very comfortable), often in the centre of small towns or villages. Classifications roughly equal star ratings. The group produces a guide, available free at the hotels themselves, or by post at a fee.

Child Facilities

A group slogan translates roughly as ‘Hotel-keeping with a Human Face', with an obligation on all members to offer certain child-friendly services. There is a children's menu at hotels averaging €7. This must be nutritionally suitable for children while using regional products. There may also be toys to entertain children at table and in some hotels the children may be invited to choose their own dessert in the kitchen to give them a glimpse of what goes on there. All hotels offer high chairs, a baby changing table, bottle warming facilities, a playroom or open air area reserved for children. Some hotels offer childcare, organise games and sessions on flora and fauna. Cots are available free.

Sample Price

Range €42-58 per room.
