A Benedictine Monastery offering self-catering cottage, and catered retreats and workshops with both guesthouse and youth hostel style accommodation. Welcomes families, cot and family room available in the guesthouse, along with twin and single rooms. There is also a facility in the grounds called The cottages, which is completely self-caering. It can sleep up to 18 and isoften used by groups of families who want to spend some time together. They can be completely independent of what is going on in the monastery though sometimes they attend services in the abbey church and get to know some of the monks. There is no specific programmes for families who usually go out in the area visiting local attractions such as Newbury, Oxford, Winchester, Stonehenge etc. Those who are in the cottage tend to use the garden where they can have barbecues. Visitors may join the monks for meals in the refectory, where they eat in silence. ‘Children sometimes find this a strange experience and their parents are also surprised to find their children managing to keep quiet!' Sample PriceFor the cottage the usual charge is £10 per person per day. For the guesthouse the suggested donation for single room is £37.50 per day full board, for shared rooms about £32.50 but this is negotiable, depending on what people can afford. |
