Specialists in outdoor activities, the programme of winter activity holidays in Finland covers options from luxury to real wilderness experiences and covering a full range of activity levels. Accommodation includes both hotels and apartments plus lodges and log cabins. Harriniva or Kittila during January and February are recommended for the best chance of seeing the Northern Lights, and all destinations offer traditional arrangements for Christmas and new Year including Santa visits. Highlighted are Christmas Kalevala, a traditional Finnish Christmas on Christmas Eve (Christmas Day in Finland) baking pastries, tasting Christmas rice porridge, and the children helping bring a tree from the forest and decorating it, a church service and visit to the soldier's grave in Kuhmo. Christmas day is free with optional outdoor activities and an even folk performance and dancing, and on 26th ride in a horse sleigh, husky sledging, snow mobiling and more. A Father Christmas Trail, available in December, includes a husky safari, a visit to the elves who make gingerbread, past other craftspeople a visit to santa and to more elves making handicrafts.
