This company specializes in classic treks, increasingly arranges tailor-made tours, and offers family holidays around the world with a walking theme. The company also organises expeditions for schools and colleges involving walking, trekking, horse riding, diving and wildlife observation, or any combination of these. Walks Worldwide steers away from the best- known walking regions because of the crowds. The company points out that ‘in the less developed countries we will take stringent measures to ensure that hygiene is of a very high standard, although . ultimately parents will be responsible for the personal hygiene and health of their own children'. As a smallish company it is in a good position to offer personalised advice on this as other issues. A range of equipment is available for hire including baby carriers at £30 per week. Unlike many operators, the company's policy on rubbish includes, at some destinations such as Nepal, employing people to collect rubbish on the trails and at camp sites and take back anything non-burnable or biodegradable for recycling or proper recycling and disposal.

What and Where

Family trips are offered to Spain, France, Switzerland, Greece, Cyprus, Corsica, Bulgaria, Finland, Jordan, Morocco, Oman, Tanzania, Nepal, Peru, Ecuador, Vietnam, Canada. In addition the company goes to Egypt, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Malawi, Pakistan, Peru, New Zealand, Finland, Australia and more. Most holidays are around two weeks with a maximum of 15 per group. Accommodation is in simple hotels or gites or in local accommodation such as hay barns in Switzerland or Bedouin tents in Jordan.

Minimum Age

With only a couple of exceptions, trips are designed for all ages. There is support where appropriate, such as donkeys in Morocco, if there are young children who may not be able to walk the distance but are too old to be carried.

Sample Price

An eight-day trip to Morocco is £650 for adults, £95 for 0-1 year, £595 for 2-11 years, including flights, all transport, accommodation, and all meals on the trek.
