A summer school which sees around 3,000 visitors a year over the three weeks it operates at the end of July and beginning of August. There are courses for adults and for 'young people and children' (3-17 years). Evening entertainment includes two gala performances, lectures and more.

Age Groups

Of those able to stay independently 10-12 (Young Adventurers) and 13-17 (Teenagers) with this second group split for many activity courses so everyone can find their level.

Size of Groups

Depending on the activity, ranging from 10 for piano and most art courses to 36-plus for a choral workshop and singing for pleasure.

Total per Centre

Including adults 1,000-plus per week.

Carer to Child Ratios

Social services guidelines are kept to for children.

Staff Checks and Qualifications

All staff are checked and many are qualified teachers, some employed by the school during term time. All those looking after children of 8 and under undergo a Social Security check.

120 acres.

Supervision

Those staying independently are housed separately with their own residences and individual social facilities and supervision.

Activities

The number of courses is now at a record level with around 240 in total and range from pottery to cartooning, designing a clock, cooking, fly fishing, jazz dance, shooting, photography, multi-sport, paper engineering, outdoor adventure, golf, karate, tennis, graphic design, woodland installation and style and makeup for teenage girls. (The idea for the younger visitors is to provide options not generally provided in schools.)

One Site Facilities

All the school's facilities are made available but some day trips are included where relevant to courses such as the outdoor challenge course.

Food

Provided by the school canteen.

Getting There

A pick up is provided from Victoria Station, Heathrow Airport and Swindon Rail Station on Sundays, and a drop off to the same points on the following Saturday.

Sample Price

Depends on the courses taken but a basic course price is £93 for five half days and residential unaccompanied 10-17 year olds must follow both a morning and afternoon course. In addition board and accommodation costs £140.
