A summer school which sees around 3,000 visitors a year over the three weeks it operates at the end of July and beginning of August. There are courses for adults and for 'young people and children' (3-17 years). Evening entertainment includes two gala performances, lectures and more. How Many Years Operating27. Age GroupsOf those able to stay independently 10-12 (Young Adventurers) and 13-17 (Teenagers) with this second group split for many activity courses so everyone can find their level. Size of GroupsDepending on the activity, ranging from 10 for piano and most art courses to 36-plus for a choral workshop and singing for pleasure. Total per CentreIncluding adults 1,000-plus per week. Carer to Child RatiosSocial services guidelines are kept to for children. Staff Checks and QualificationsAll staff are checked and many are qualified teachers, some employed by the school during term time. All those looking after children of 8 and under undergo a Social Security check. Size of Centre120 acres. SupervisionThose staying independently are housed separately with their own residences and individual social facilities and supervision. ActivitiesThe number of courses is now at a record level with around 240 in total and range from pottery to cartooning, designing a clock, cooking, fly fishing, jazz dance, shooting, photography, multi-sport, paper engineering, outdoor adventure, golf, karate, tennis, graphic design, woodland installation and style and makeup for teenage girls. (The idea for the younger visitors is to provide options not generally provided in schools.) One Site FacilitiesAll the school's facilities are made available but some day trips are included where relevant to courses such as the outdoor challenge course. FoodProvided by the school canteen. Getting ThereA pick up is provided from Victoria Station, Heathrow Airport and Swindon Rail Station on Sundays, and a drop off to the same points on the following Saturday.
