City Breaks

Bear in Mind When Booking

Specialist Reports Styles of Holiday City Breaks Bear in Mind When Booking

  • Are all transfers pre-arranged and paid for? Getting to and from your hotel could be a hassle otherwise with baggage and children.

  • If the children are small enough to need a midday sleep or it is hot enough to warrant a siesta, think of staying centrally to make this easier - even if it's more expensive.

  • If your children are older you will probably spend most of your time in a city out and about so can save on accommodation by going somewhere with a smaller room, fewer facilities and possibly less central.

  • If the children are younger you might be better off going for more expensive accommodation with a higher star rating. Four and five stars for example will generally offer a restaurant so might be able to provide snacks for children and/or heat bottles and food. Rooms are also likely to be a slightly better size though in some cities, notably Paris, hotel rooms can be startlingly small.

  • Although short break operators tend to focus on hotels, even to cities you can camp for a cheaper stay.
