Coping with Problems

Practicalities Thinking it Through Weather and Seasonal Issues Marine Life

Seasonal infestations of jellyfish are found in Miami, Acapulco, Hawaii, Australia (shallow coastal waters north of the Tropic of Capricorn November to April) and Goa (after the monsoon rains) and in significantly smaller numbers in the Mediterranean for example round the northern Sporades.

You may also get jelly fish in places like the Cote d'Azur, with an infestation reported for example in May and June 1999. This was blamed by local experts on winds and currents bringing them from the African side of the Mediterranean. However, if pollution is genuinely being dealt with, it is possible that numbers will increase.

Small children are particularly sensitive to jelly fish venom so it is probably best to avoid places where you are likely to encounter them. It is wise to be particularly careful after storms or strong winds which can bring in jellyfish overnight.
